Instant Talent: Adeline Karcher, or culture serving the region!

For the first spot-light “Instant Talent”, the Inspire Metz agency offers you an immersion into the 18th and 19th centuries with self-employed businesswoman Adeline Karcher, historian, musician, singer and flutist, who, through her visits, helps to promote the region and works to give back to music, what music has given her.

A sparkling beginning

Alongside her PhD in History and Law, published in the collection of theses by the Institut Universitaire Varenne titled “The Garrison Theatre – Hotel of Shows in Metz in the 18th Century”, Adeline gained her Musical Studies Diploma (DEM) at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de l’Eurométropole de Metz Gabriel-Pierné. She earned 1st prize for further development as well as an Interregional 1st prize. Passionate about the music of the Enlightenment and the Belle Epoque, Adeline then followed training in baroque music leading to a post playing piccolo with the Harmonie de Metz since 2016.

Originality and creativity at the service of the region

Seeking fulfilment, Adeline manages to reconcile her enjoyment of research and her love of music by offering guided visits that only she can. “In my guided visits, I always try to illustrate what I have to say about the history of the city with music. The inspiration comes naturally and helps the public to understand the subject better. Whether it’s about works of art of architectural details. Original and different, it is an excellent way to share my passion and a we spend a pleasant moment together.”

What do you expect from these musical guided visits?

“First of all, musically, being able to play 4 types of flute (traversiere, piccolo and 2 types of traverso) helps me to develop the idea linked to the changes in the history of music. I also know how to sing! I am mezzo-soprano and being able to sing during my visits creates a real surprise. Finally, I’m always looking to share, and it’s the playful side that is always the most enjoyable.”

“Culture is also an economic activity”

When considering the question of promoting the region through art and culture, Adeline responds spontaneously: “the arts bring as much to a region as economic activities. Culture is also the economy, and it is a very beautiful way of adding value to a region, that also attracts more visitors.”

Adeline’s recommendations

“It’s difficult to say! Metz Eurométropole is a real playing field for me. If I had to choose one site, I’d have to say that I have a particular link to the Opéra-Théâtre Eurométropole de Metz because of my initial training, but wherever I am, I’m never bored, and if I’m not bored, the visitors won’t be!”

And now, what are your plans?

“My aim in the coming months is to create other circuits and visits and discover other sites to provide even more enjoyment to art and history lovers, and for myself! I’m also thinking of creating an on-line platform to help me develop my business.”
