Metz welcomes the Olympic flame on June 27!


On Thursday 27th June, the City of Metz goes Olympic as the 7th and last stage of the Olympic Flame relay in Moselle.

On your marks, get set, go!

A 6km circuit around the city will get young and old into the Olympic spirit. More than twenty sporting and cultural activities (judo, table tennis, acrobatic basketball, rowing, musical events, climbing etc.) are on offer. The start of the Flame Relay is planned for 17:57 at the Arènes de Metz. Meet the 4 torchbearers chosen by the City of Metz:  Jean-Marie DONATELLO - President of the Comité 57 handisports, Sylvain KASTENDEUCH – former footballer from Metz, Marie-Jo BRUNET – President of Metz Gym et Sarah Bouktit - Pivot from Metz Handball.



Celebrating the whole city

The convoy will pass by the emblematic sites of the city of Metz: the Centre-Pompidiou-Metz, the train station, place Roi-George, the Serpenoise gateway, the Governor’s palace, the fountain on the Esplanade, the Moyen-Pont bridge, Place de la Comédie, Place de la Préfecture, Place d’Armes and Place Saint Louis. The circuit will be punctuated by 21 festive points (judo, break dance, rugby 7, flashmob, handball etc.) organised by local sporting and cultural associations, by the City of Metz and the Département of the Moselle.   • 15:30 start of the celebrations
  • 16:00 – 17:30: event City of Metz and Département de la Moselle
  • 18:00: event organised by the sponsors in the sports area
  • 19:30: arrival of the last torchbearer and lighting of the cauldron
  • 19:45: celebration site closure

Throughout the afternoon, find events organised by the councils: sport, music, shows etc. and the Flame Relay sponsors’ stands.


Traffic and parking information

There will be disturbances in the city centre from 15:15, with limited or no access in certain areas. After the Olympic Flame convoy has passed, there will be a progressive return to normal. Public transport will also be diverted during the festivities and will be free for the whole day.
