Introduction
The former Benedictine abbey of Saint-Vincent was founded in the 10th century. Rebuilt from 1248 and consecrated in 1376, it is a superb example of Gothic architecture. Its monumental classical façade was rebuilt between 1768 and 1786. After the French Revolution, which marked the end of the abbey, the church became a parish church, then a basilica in 1933. The Basilica of Saint Vincent has been desacralized since 2012, and the Association des Amis de Saint Vincent organizes occasional tours of the basilica. Between 1850 and 1866, Messinian artists Laurent-Charles Maréchal and Charles-François Champigneulle created several stained-glass windows.
