Introduction
Originally called "Moyen Pont des Morts" ("Middle Bridge of the Dead"), the Moyen Pont and the Pont des Morts owe their names to the origin of their construction: it was funded by the hospital St. Nicholas that took and sold the best piece of clothes of every dead person in Metz. The Moyen Pont was fortified and we can still see, along the Moselle, the opening that brought down the railings in order to block the access to the city from the river.
