Exhibition - Copistes

In an exceptional collaboration with the Musée du Louvre, the "Copistes" exhibition celebrates contemporary painting and invites a hundred contemporary artists to play the role of Copistes.

Copying is at the heart of the classical tradition: copying from the masters, learning techniques from them, absorbing their expertise. Rejected by the ethics of modern art, the question of copying now seems to be coming up again. Around a hundred creative figures have been invited to copy a work of their choice at the Musée du Louvre, reflecting on the links between heritage and innovation. Among them are painters and draughtsmen, as well as sculptors, designers and writers, all of whom propose different ways of copying and thinking about copying, in an original exhibition on creation through copying.
